About Us

The Royal Air Force Mountaineering Association (RAFMA) is the representative body for mountaineering within the RAF and forms the core of the Service Mountaineering community; which is the oldest of the single Service mountaineering clubs.

It is also a lively, sociable and active mountaineering club for service personnel (including reserve forces), dependents and retired members. We are affiliated to the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) – join RAFMA and get club membership of the BMC, plus handy discounts with companies such as DMM Climbing and Mountain Equipment.

We have around 450 members, with serving members found all over the world and across all ranks. Some love to crush plastic indoors, others prefer walking in red socks, some do both; as well as major high-altitude expeditions and going to the pub of course.
